This evening, our Jazz&More series is dedicated to one of the most influential figures in jazz history: John Coltrane, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2026. With this tribute concert, we honor an artist who not only expanded jazz but fundamentally transformed it.

Like few others, John Coltrane embodies musical radicalism, spiritual depth, and a tireless search for new forms of expression. From hard bop and modal jazz to the free, spiritual works of his later years, he revolutionized saxophone playing and the culture of improvisation. His music shattered harmonic boundaries, opened new spaces for collective improvisation, and continues to influence generations of musicians far beyond the realm of jazz. With "Giant Steps," "Naima," and "Like Sonny," Coltrane created works that are unforgettable (if you haven't already heard them).

Our special guest this evening: Leszek Żądło, a gifted saxophonist and pioneering figure for the instrument at the Würzburg University of Music, who has made significant contributions to the academic and artistic development of the saxophone there. With his exceptional sound and deep connection to the Coltrane tradition, he lends this tribute a unique and personal touch.

As always, Bernhard Pichl & Co. present the theme with their special guest in an entertaining and compelling way – peppered with anecdotes, stories, and improvisation that emerges spontaneously on stage.
